a gift

Last night while Mom, Mark and I were visiting Dad, Mark suggested we each pray and thank God for something specific. As we did so, each praying a couple times, Dad closed his eyes and relaxed. Then we heard him begin to pray in a very soft voice. We were unable to understand most of what he was saying. But this is what we did hear; “Father, your Word tells us not to worry…strength…Amen.”  Tears of joy filled our eyes as smiles crossed our faces. Isn’t God good to let us know that even in this most difficult time, Dad is walking close with his Heavenly Father.

  1. Dearest Family, What a beautiful moment you will forever hold close to your heart! Certainly, I understand how difficult this time is for all of you. It is heart wrenching to see our loved one so frail – but what comfort and praise we have when we see them strong in the Lord!
God is GOOD all the time and
ALL THE TIME, Goo is good!

My prayers are with you all. A special hug for you, Efie!

  3. Dear Evy,
Our prayers and thoughts are with you & family Be encouraged by the Word.Jer.29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” What a glorious hope we have in Christ. Tell Art we love him and if he remembers Sam, the child he found sleeping in the doorway when he stayed with us, that I just got word today Sam has arrived safely in Latvia for a 10-day mission trip…his first trip since moving to Tennessee. It was people like you and Art who gave my children an education in missions. I am ever thankful for the influence you had in our family.

  4. Dear Evy and Ruthi, Our hearts and prayers are with you in this difficult time……It has been hard watching our dear Art Yohner grow weaker as the years have gone by. But his positive attitude and willing spirit has been precious to see and watch in his life. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives at this time.

We are often remembering ‘sayings’ of Art in our daily routine: ‘If that’s lunch, we’ve had it’…….’That was some good groceries’……That grin on his face when he made a ‘funny’ is still in our memory as well as many other things that was a part of the ‘one and only Art Yohner’….

Being here in Suriname and remembering how generous he was in giving us financies to make improvements in the Hostel come back easily as we see that building deteriorating and needing much done to it today. Again our faith is in our Heavenly Father to meet those needs as He met them in you Evy and Art back in the 60s/70s. Thank you so much…..I know the Lord has blessed you as a result of your kindess to us and all who enjoyed that building in those years.

    We love you each one.
Give Art a hug from us:)alice/nick<

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the gloroy that will be revealed in us.” Rom. 8:18
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” 2 Cor. 4:16-17

  6. Thank you, dear friends, for your comments, emails, phone calls, cards and most of all your prayers for Art, Rurhi and me. It is a most difficult time for us but we are finding God’s faithfulness and grace is sufficient for each day as we need it. Jesus said, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness”. 2Cor12:9 We are finding this true each day as we look to Him for His strength. God bless you all. We love you and praise God to be a part of His loving family! Evy

Thank you for keeping us informed about how to pray for you all and Art.
You all have always been a blessing and encouragement to me, and my family. God bless you for that!
Rest assured I am praying for Art and you.
Ruthi, I enjoyed reading your blog. You definitely have a talent for writing like your Mom. I expect to see a book written and published eventually- one by each of you.
