my 2010 word

IMG_3739

I am a doer.

Need something done? Just ask me. It’s hard for me to say “no”.

Being busy is normal for me. Maybe the busyness makes me feel valued. Maybe not being busy sounds a little boring. Or scary. I like being busy, but dislike being overwhelmed and stressed. Maybe it’s getting older and not being able to multi-task like I use to.

Or maybe, just maybe, I am coming to understand that being is more important than doing.

The past few weeks I have been looking for a word or a phrase that will help me focus on what God wants to teach me in 2010.

Last year it was Simplify… my house, my life, etc. I spent a lot of energy in 2009 purging my house of things that I thought were not useful or beautiful. And my focus has been just that… on my house/things.

But this year I want to focus on a different area.

Through a book I purchased a couple months ago, scripture, conversations with friends, and time being quiet, it became clear what my word would be.

My 2010 word is

Be Still

It’s about being not doing.

If I can learn to just be, the rest will fall into place.

Here’s the book that is helping me get started.

I am looking forward to sharing this journey of Being Still with you in 2010.

So now you know my word.

What’s yours?

  1. I like it, I so agree with you, Ruthi, I wonder if it has to do with the season of our lives, the older I get the more I realize that it is people and relationships that really matter. I love you thoughts. You have been such and inspiration to me. Love you.

    1. Nancy, it must have something to do with the season but also just the society we live in. It is really hard to swim upstream, isn’t it!

  2. It was nice to see about your word for 2010. My husband and I have been doing that for the last 20 years. The pastor who did our premarital counseling introduced us to the idea.

My word for 2010 is Strengthen, revive, renew.

    Blessings as you Be Still

    1. Dora, how amazing and wonderful that you and your husband have learned the discipline of being still. I am sure that you have reaped the benifits and will indeed be strengthened, revived and renewed as a result. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Ruthi,
Donna gave me your blog site tonight at work and instead of coming home and studying I came home and started picking through. Thank you for the question; “what is my word”?. I don’t know the answer right now, but I assure you I will be reflecting on that over the weekend and will let you know when I have the answer…
