an angel escort

Yesterday God’s angels escorted our good friend,
Lou Komarov, into the presence of Jesus.
He is now completely healed from the cancer he lived with for 12 years.

Lou’s 50th birthday celebration 2009

Dear Lou,

I vividly remember Cherie’s phone call back in Oct 2007. We were out west on vacation.  The news wasn’t good. Cancer was back for the third time. Surgery had been done the first time and radiation the second time. This time there was not much that could be done.  That morning as we drove through the beautiful hills of Idaho, listening to music, your favorite song played…

Blessed be Your name
in the land that is plentiful
where your streams of abundance flow
blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
when I’m found in the desert place
though I walk through the wilderness
blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise
when the darkness closes in Lord still i will say:
blessed be the name of the Lord
blessed be Your name
blessed be the name of the Lord
blessed be Your glorious name

blessed be your name
when the sun’s shining down on me
when the world’s all as it should be
blessed be your name

blessed be your name
on the road marked with suffering
though there’s pain in the offering
blessed be your name

every blessing you pour out I’ll turn back to praise
when the darkness closes in Lord still I will say
blessed be the name of the Lord
blessed be your name Jesus
blessed be the name of the Lord
blessed be your glorious name

you give and take away
you give and take away
my heart will choose to say
blessed be your name

I found a sheet of paper and a sharpie and scribbled out a message to you and your family. We pulled over, set the camera on the car and took this photo to email to you that evening at our hotel.

traveling from Idaho to Wyoming

Many prayed faithfully for God to heal you. We had hoped it would have been here. But in His perfect sovereign plan, God took you home yesterday.

prayer card for Lou 2007

Thank you Lou for being you…

for the life you lived loving Jesus and sharing his love with everyone you met.

for being a real true friend to my husband.

for being our small group leader for many years.

for leading our “sharing time” on Sunday mornings.

for being authentic in the way you lived your life.

You will be greatly missed… your hugs, the way you loved to worship God, your encouraging words, your presence at our annual “DHKW” dinner.

Please know that your Special K’s… Cherie, Pavel, Christopher and Daniel are being loved on by family and friends. There will be hard days ahead but they will not be alone and they will be ok.

It makes me smile to think of you in heaven… seeing the impact your life has made on so many, dancing with the angels, celebrating Jesus’ birthday with him (how cool is that?!), hugging all the saints, and trying to find out if there is a hockey game nearby.

with love and rejoicing that you are healed,
ruthi

  2. A very bittersweet day,…. we lost an amazing man, friend, dad, husband, son…but Lou gained the very best “early Christmas gift” ever: a big bear hug from the Father, words of affirmation: “well done…!” and a brand new, healthy body! We weep….we rejoice.

  4. Yes, we lost a friend yesterday, but he will forever leave his mark on those he left behind. He was loving, sensitive, kind, funny, sincere, honest and oh, so hugable. He loved his wife, children, parents, friends, ‘little brother’ and most of all he loved his Lord. So long for now Lou.

  5. This is so beautiful…

I have known Cherie since high school and through Facebook we have become re-acquainted and at the same time my wife and her have been introduced. Jamie and I have developed such a special relationship with Cherie and through her with Lou. Yesterday was a sad day for both of us but at the same time it is a new and fantastic beginning for as he is now sitting to the right of God!! Jamie and I hold Cherie and her boys in our hearts and prayers!!

    1. Scott, isn’t FB great! especially in times like these. I know the many comments on FB have been a huge encouragement to Cherie. Thanks for your love and prayers for Cherie and the boys.

  6. Ruthi, you and Mark were staying with us when you got the word that Lou’s cancer came back. How your hearts ached with the news. I never got to meet Lou, but you shared some wonderful things about him. A few years ago I did meet Cherie and spentd a fun, exciting day at Busch Gardens with her and you, Ruthi. I will be keep Cherie and her sons in my prayers.

  7. Ruthi, I was so touched by this blog even though I did not know Lou but I knew his story through my husband’s 9 1/2 yr.
battle with cancer; the many metastises; the number of times hospice was called in; the many rallies and his final peaceful
homegoing 3 wks. before his first grandchild’s birth. I have read this over many times now and each time I am brought to
tears and end up rejoicing that Lou and Hal are now with our Lord. It makes me long, too, to be with Him and them. Thank
you for touching my heart so.

    1. Barb, I am sure when Lou runs into Hal on the streets of gold, he will give him one of his famous hugs. Such comfort in knowing where our loved ones are and where we will one day be!
