early morning thoughts

Woke up early this morning. Alot on my mind. So I got up, let the dog out, brewed some coffee and sat down with Dad’s bible. Thought I would share a few potentially random thoughts with you.

Many would ask my parents if it was “safe” to live in Suriname, where there were snakes, jaguars and all that comes with life in the Amazon jungle. Dad’s response would always be “The happiest and safest place in all the world is in the will of God. I would rather be in the jungles of Suriname in the will of God than driving on I-75 out of the will of God”

Found this underlined in Dad’s Bible:  So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12. In the margin is this…

I’ve only just a minute, 60 seconds in it.
Forced upon me, can’t refuse it.
Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it.
But it’s up to me to use it, give account if I abuse it.
Just a tiny little minute, but eternity in it.

God has given me the assurance numerous times that He is walking closely with Dad. Yesterday Les, Maryann and Peggy came to visit Dad. He was sleeping as Les prayed for him, but when Les finished praying, Dad prayed. We could not understand anything he said, but we knew he was praying.  His body and his mind are failing, but in his spirit he is still praising God and shining bright for Jesus.

Yesterday we met with Dad’s doctor, a special caring compassionate man, who loves my Dad. His opinion is that Dad is in the “end stage” of Parkinson’s. At this stage there is not much more they can do for him as far as medicines are concerned.  Our question to him was how long. His response was that unless he begins to improve, it could be a matter of weeks. Our prayer for the past 2 weeks has been and continues to be that God would bless Dad with restored health, but if that is not in His perfect plan, then we ask in His mercy and grace He would call Dad home quickly. We continue to pray so.

Our family cannot thank you enough for the love you have shown us.  Knowing that there is a constant flow of prayers on behalf of Dad and us, is a tremendous source of encouragement and strength. As someone told us… “Please try to relax. Your many friends will do the praying”. Our cup overflows!

Here’s a little “vintage Yohner” for you…

  1. Dear Ruthi and Aunt Evy – Thank you for sharing. I am encouraged by Uncle Art’s notes in his Bible. I love you guys and my heart aches for the journey you are asked to travel right now, but God is good all the time, All the time, God is good. I’m praying for you.

  2. Hi Ruthie,
Thank you for sharing from your heart! It has been a blessing to me. Your Mom and Dad have been a blessing to Sam and I through the years and they continue to be. Be assured of our prayers for each of you during this time. We are so thankful for our Heavenly Father who is our Great Comfortor! 2 Cor. 1:3-5
    We love you so much!

  3. Boy does that picture bring back great memories. I love the bat. 🙂 I love you all. I read 1 Chronicles 20 this morning again and was so blessed. My arms are around you hugging you both. I know God’s doing the same.

  4. Hello:

    Evy and Ruthi:

I am sure you don’t remember us but we attended
Trinity Baptist Church in Clearwater, Florida.

It has been a long time since hearing about the
the Yohner’s and we are so sorry to hear about
Art and will definitely pray for him and you and all
    those caring for Art.

Dorthy Ely sent this to us and was so glad she
    did send it.

Many years ago someone here in Clearwater gave
Art and Evy a car and they needed for someone
to drive the car to Ft. Lauderdale and I said I
would be willing to drive the car down there and
then fly home. I spent the night with Art and Evy
and the next day Art took me to the airport and
    I flew back to Tampa.

My wife Pat and I will share this with all our
Christian friends and ask them to pray for Art and
His will to be done. Also to pray for all the family
    and care givers.

Please keep us updated about Art!

    With Love,

    Dale and Pat DuBois
