watching the kids

You know you’ve spent four nights and five days caring for your grandchildren when…
you find yourself cutting your food into dice-size pieces,
you clap and say “good-bye poop” as you flush the toilet,
Oscar is your new favorite cartoon,
“Shake Your Sillies Out” is in your head and you can’t shake it,
you find yourself in bed by 9:30 every night,
dreaming about matchbox cars, Play-doh, and baby dolls seems normal,
you’re too busy tired to pull out your “good” camera and settle instead for your phone,
having raised your babies in your twenties not your fifties makes you thankful,
a whole new universe has been opened up through their eyes,
and your heart is full of love and gratitude for the gift of time with your them and their Mimi.
